Missy Gators clobber Columbus in softball region opener

Vicksburg High made short work of Columbus in a Saturday softball matinee.

The Missy Gators scored seven runs in the first inning, 15 in the second, and crushed Columbus 22-0 to win their MHSAA Region 2-6A opener at the Softball Swamp.

Vicksburg (2-6, 1-0 Region 2-6A) had eight hits, and took advantage of 11 walks and four hit batters to pile up the runs.

Trinity McGloster doubled twice and scored three runs, and Raylyn Parson and Makynzie Dunmore also scored three runs each. Avery Van Norman was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, four RBIs and one run scored.

Center fielder Jordan Powell was also 2-for-2 with two single, two RBIs and two runs scored. All nine Vicksburg starters scored a run.

Lili Kistler pitched a shutout in the circle. She allowed one hit and two walks, and had five strikeouts in the three-inning, run-rule shortened game. Kistler also singled, drove in one run and scored another.

The Missy Gators will be back at home on Monday for another region game, when they face Neshoba Central. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:15.
