Vicksburg’s oldest and biggest running event celebrated a milestone and drew quite a crowd Saturday.

More than 600 people registered, and more than 500 participated in, the 45th annual Run Thru History on a chilly, foggy morning in the Vicksburg National Military Park. The annual event included a 10-kilometer run, 5-kilometer race walk, and 1-mile children’s fun run.

All of the races were followed by an awards ceremony and after-party on the other side of Clay Street, at the Hampton Inn & Suites. Legendary Vicksburg band The Chill performed as runners and walkers snacked on hot dogs and other refreshments.

Ryan Crandall, a 30-year-old Madison resident, won the 10K run for the second time in three years, and third time overall. He posted a time of 34 minutes, 48 seconds.

Vicksburg resident Emma Stevens, a native of England, was the women’s 10K champion with a time of 48:19. Stevens finished 68th overall and 17th in the women’s division last year, but chopped nearly seven minutes off her time to take the crown this time.

In the 5K race walk, Forest’s Larry Robinson was the overall winner with a time of 32:43 and Teresa Schlosser the women’s champ in 34:28.

Robinson won for the sixth year in a row, and 10th time overall. Schlosser won the women’s title for the second time in three years.

In the 1-miler for children 12 and under, Asher Rice clocked a time of 6:34 to win the overall title and Maggie Winters was the girls’ champ in 8:30.
