Voting is now open in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s nominees are Vicksburg High baseball player Braylong Green; track athletes Marley Bufkin (Porter’s Chapel) and Mere’ Smith (Warren Central); and tennis player Hendrix Eldridge (St. Aloysius). Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Braylon Green, a senior shortstop, led Vicksburg High’s baseball team to two wins in three games last week. Green batted .455 (5-for-11) with two triples, one double, six RBIs and five runs scored as the Gators beat Yazoo City 31-12 and Terry 11-6.

Marley Bufkin, a junior with Porter’s Chapel Academy’s girls’ track and field team, won one event and finished second in three others at the Canton Academy Ice Breaker Meet on Feb. 28. Bufkin won the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 2 inches. She finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 30.20 seconds, and was on the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams that both finished second.

Mere’ Smith, a sophomore with Warren Central’s girls’ track and field team, won two events at the Brookhaven Speed Trials meet on March 1. Smith won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.92 seconds, and the 300 meter hurdles in 51.11 seconds.

Hendrix Eldridge, a freshman with St. Aloysius’ girls’ tennis team, won four matches last week. Eldridge won singles matches against Cleveland Central, Northwest Rankin and Providence Classical, and teamed with Olivia Larsen to win a doubles match against Manchester Academy.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
