St. Aloysius’ track and field team waited a while to get its season started, but made it worth it.

Samantha Edwards won three distance events, and Megan Theriot won four sprints to get St. Al off to a good start at the Generals Relays at Washington School in Greenville.

Edwards won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs in the girls’ Division 2 high school meet. She posted a time of 2 minutes, 33.45 seconds in the 800 meters; 5:39.01 in the 1,600; and 12:12.49 in the 3,200.

Theriot competed in the Division 2 middle school meet and earned victories in the 100 and 200 meters, as well as two relays. She had times of 13.68 seconds in the 100 and 28.53 seconds in the 200.

The relay team of Theriot, Annslee Averett, Madelyn Kavanaugh and Kelci Bingham won the 4×100 meter relay, with a time of 56.14 seconds. The team of Kavanaugh, Bingham, Theriot and Kennedi Blassingame won the 4×200 in 1:58.35.

Averett also finished second in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles. Julia Moberley was second in the Division 2 high school discus, with a throw of 75 feet, 1 inch, and finished third in the shot put.

For St. Al’s boys team, Sam Ashley won the Division 2 middle school 400 meter dash with a time of 58.39 seconds.

The Flashes got a second-place finish from Ace Oglesby in the middle school 200 meters, and a second from Sam Hall in the high school 400 meters.

“The kids did outstanding,” St. Al coach Michael Fields said. “It was a great first meet. If we can build off of what we did today, we can have a very successful season.”

Sharkey-Issaquena Academy also competed in the Generals Relays, and its boys’ team won six events.

Gary Jackson won the high school long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 10 1/2 inches. He finished second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters. Jackson also joined Tom Davis, Jahbarey Knox and Corderrius Jackson on the winning 4×200 meter relay team, with a time of 1:37.76.

Davis won the high school title in the 400 meters, with a time of 55.84 seconds. Lawson Dew was first in the middle school 1,600 meters with a time of 2:48.85.

Ben Boykin won the Division 1 middle school 400 meters in 58.58 seconds, and the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches.
