Lady Vikes roll up Wesson to continue winning streak

Warren Central continued to build on its impressive early-season softball success.

Madison Pant allowed two unearned runs and struck out six batters in a complete-game victory, and also drove in two runs at the plate to lead Warren Central to a 9-2 victory over Wesson on Wednesday.

The Lady Vikes (8-2) won for the sixth time in seven games, and third in a row, while handing Wesson (8-1) its first loss of the season.

Pant’s two-run single helped Warren Central take a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but it didn’t pull away until later in the game. After Wesson scored twice in the third inning, the Lady Vikes scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Tyra Bridges hit an RBI double in the fifth inning and Sarah Cameron Fancher had an RBI single in the sixth.

Makayla Jackson scored two runs and drove in another for Warren Central, and Jenn Smith was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Warren Central will be back at home Thursday against Clinton for its final game before a nine-day layoff for spring break. The junior varsity game will begin at 5 p.m. at Lucy Young Field, and the varsity starts at 6:15.
