The clouds cleared and the sun came out in time to celebrate Oldenburg Family Dentistry with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday at its Wisconsin Avenue location.
City of Vicksburg Ward 2 Alderman Alex Monsour opened the ceremony on behalf of the mayor and alderman, expressing appreciation for the commitment Oldenburg has made to healthcare in Vicksburg.
Dr. Chandler Oldenburg is a Vicksburg native who graduated from Warren Central High School. She attended University of
Arkansas and received her Doctor of Dental Medicine from UMMC School of Dentistry. During her time at UMMC, she received many awards for her outstanding performance, including the American College of Dentists Outstanding Leadership Award, the ASDA Excellence Award and the Trailblazer Award.
Oldenburg has taken over the practice formerly run by longtime local dentist, Dr. Martin Chaney. She began shadowing him in dental school, then worked with him, and now owns the practice.
“I’m really thankful,” Oldenburg said. “I really shadowed him (Chaney) from second year dental school. I watched how he did things, how he spoke to patients.”
Chaney continues to work at the office three days a week. According to Oldenburg, “there’s no plan for him to stop doing that. I’m happy that he’s here. I’m thankful that he’s trusted me. He started this practice.”
Chaney adds that he started the business “with one chair in 1983.” His work with Oldenburg began during her time in dental school and also when they both volunteered at a free clinic in Vicksburg.
“I’m just tickled she came back to Vicksburg. She could have gone anywhere. We’re glad to have her,” he said, adding, “I love it now more than ever.”
Oldenburg said she is glad to be in Vicksburg.
“There was no question where we would go,” she said of coming back to the River City. “This is home.”
Oldenburg Family Dentistry is located at 3205 Wisconsin Avenue and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until noon. The practice specializes in family and cosmetic dental services with an emphasis on preventative oral health.
