Frank Farish had Vicksburg National Military Park Guides printed. • George T. Houston and his son were planning a visit to King Tut’s tomb in Egypt. • Emily Crutcher was ill. 

90 Years Ago: 1934

E.A. Finane Jr. was named patrolman for the county roads. • The supervisors authorized new fire escapes for the courthouse. • J.D. Dugan, a fireman, was burned in a house fire. • Walter J. Marcinewiz and Sadie Miller were married.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Jeanette Newman, member of the Carr Central Faculty, resumed her duties after a recent illness. • Emma Slater died. • James N. Permo, who was recently wounded in Italy, had returned to Warren County. • Mary Ellen Richards was elected state chaplain at the state DAR meeting in Jackson. • The Rev. W.F. Mansell was ill in Washington D.C. 

70 Years Ago: 1954

William Clark was elected president of the Vicksburg Shrine Club. • The Rev. Frank Mitchell passed away. • Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Thames were vacationing in Florida.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Services were held for Mrs Bertha Coltharp, a Tallulah resident. • Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Emerson announced the birth of a son, William. • W.T. Dugan died.

50 Years Ago: 1974

The Rev. Guy Gray was given a 1966 Volkswagen by the congregation of Immanuel Baptist Church. • Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Rozier announced the engagement of their daughter, Anita, to Robert Gibbs. • Former Vicksburg resident Louise Halpin O’Neill died in El Paso. • Charles Ring was the new program director of the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department. 

40 Years Ago: 1984

St. Al senior, Lynn Hennessey welcomed tourists. • Julie Nasif, Angelo Abraham and Emily Abraham helped distribute posters for the annual Lebanese Dinner.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Mississippi Power and Light Company offices on Washington Street were sold to Ameristar Casino. • Services were held for Mattie Mae Wilson.

20 Years Ago: 2004

The historic Strand Theatre on Clay Street hosted its first public open house.

10 Years Ago: 2014

EMTs went high-tech to save time and money for the Vicksburg Fire Department. • Jeanette Humphrey died, as did Kimbra Lynn Parson.  • Tires, rims and electronics were the hot ticket items for thieves this past weekend.
