100 Years Ago: 1924

Katherine McGivaren was ill. • Ed Middlebrook, of Rolling Fork, underwent surgery at the Infirmary. • James Morgan died.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Benjamin Hullum died. • Lloyd Lewis, a famous Chicago biographer, was visiting Vicksburg. • Edwin Barfield and Gladys Grant were married.

80 Years Ago: 1944

James N. Palermo, wounded in Italy, returned to the U.S. • William L. Tennant, with the U.S. Navy, was here visiting his parents. • Sgt. Charles D. Giglio had arrived safely overseas. • Pvt. Mel Faulk was assigned to Turner Air Field at Albany, Ga.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Dr. W.K. Purks spoke to members of the Kiwanis Club. • Shirley Hill and Catherine Finnegan returned from a visit to St. Louis. • A. J. Brunini spoke to the National Association of Cost Accountants in Jackson. • Shelia Lawler was home from the Mississippi State College For Women for the weekend. 

60 Years Ago: 1964

Betsy Cole was vacationing in Chicago. • Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Roland announced the birth of their son, Johnny. • James Pettway died. • Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown were visiting points in Florida.

 50 Years Ago: 1974

Services were held for Pauline Mitchell. • Amelia Mincey was a patient at Mercy Hospital. • Carl Franco was one of nine students selected by LSU’s Department of Architecture to complete the design criteria for houses to be built in flood areas.

40 Years Ago: 1984 

Joe K. ”Frog” Green died. • Lula Mae Jones was named director of the Warren County Department of Public Welfare.

30 Years Ago: 1994

The proposed bed tax made Vicksburg tax rates the highest in the region.

20 Years Ago: 2004

The Rosa A. Temple Class of 1969 was having a class reunion meeting. 

10 Years Ago: 2014

Callaway ended VHS’ Gators basketball season. • Historic Balfour home was sold to a Texas family. • Bond reduced for father in shaken baby death.
