Warren Central, Porter’s Chapel tennis teams put in work at Halls Ferry Classic

Warren Central and Porter’s Chapel Academy’s tennis teams both put in a long day on the tennis courts Saturday.
Each team played three matches at the Halls Ferry Park Classic that kicked off the stretch runs of their respective seasons. Warren Central won two of its three matches, while PCA lost all three.
Grenada and Pearl also played in the round robin tournament. Grenada went 3-0 on the day to take the team championship.
Warren Central started with a 7-0 victory over Porter’s Chapel, then beat Pearl 5-2 before losing to Grenada 6-1.
Lilli Feibelman won her singles matches against PCA and Pearl, while Luke Bond won doubles matches with three different partners.
Bond teamed with Brady Taylor to win 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 boys doubles vs. PCA’s Noah Labarre and Caleb Griffin. Against Pearl, Bond was with Sam Harris at No. 1 boys doubles and they defeated J.P. Proctor and Harden Shaw 6-3, 6-0.
Bond then moved to mixed doubles with Sydney Sullivan and earned the Vikings’ only point against Grenada with a 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 victory against Michael Cavanaugh and Leah Briscoe.
Sullivan also won a girls doubles match against PCA, teaming with Ellie Tennison for a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mia Abdo and Chelsea Fuller.
Porter’s Chapel was shut out in its first two matches against Warren Central and Grenada, but did win two points in a 5-2 loss to Pearl in its finale.
Thomas Azlin and Henry Slayton rallied after losing the first set to beat Shaw and A.E. Farrar 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 in a tiebreaker at No. 1 boys doubles.
PCA’s other point came in another tiebreaker in No. 2 boys doubles, as John McGeee and Corbin Bass beat Hayden McInnis and Carmyne Wilson 2-6, 6-3, 1-0.
PCA will play at River Oaks on Thursday at 4 p.m., and then is back at Halls Ferry Park for another tournament on its home courts on March 23.
Warren Central will host Florence at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, then is at St. Andrew’s on Thursday at 3 p.m.
