St. Aloysius’ baseball team won its first district series, but let a sweep slip away.

Carson Smith hit a two-run home run, Keller Bradley had three RBIs and also turned in an outstanding pitching performance, and the Flashes beat Adams County Christian School 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday in Natchez.

The win secured the series victory for the Flashes (7-7, 2-1 MAIS District 4-5A), but they lost game two of the doubleheader 9-6.

St. Al beat ACCS 16-3 Tuesday in Vicksburg.

In game one Thursday, Bradley pitched six innings and had nine strikeouts. He carried a shutout into the sixth inning before ACCS scored twice. Walt Andrews pitched the seventh inning and had three strikeouts to lock down the victory.

Bradley also brought in St. Al’s first two runs with a single in the second inning. The Flashes added an unearned run in the third, and Smith’s two-run homer in the sixth made it 5-0.

After ACCS cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bradley hit an RBI single to bring in an insurance run in the seventh.

In game two, ACCS scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past the Flashes. Coleman Carer hit a two-run double and two more runs scored on dropped third strikes.

St. Al put two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but one was erased on a double play and the other was stranded.

Evan Mallard and Damien Reeves both hit RBI doubles for the Flashes, who themselves overcame a three-run deficit to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth inning.

Clark Hobson finished 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, and Smith had two hits. Mallard had two RBIs.

Carter and Sean Kerry Cothern each drove in two runs for ACCS.

St. Al had a five-game winning streak snapped. It will play Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Central Hinds.
