Memorial services were held in the Temple in honor of the late Sig Susman. • George Alvers died. • Mrs. Lou Clarke was seriously ill.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Frank Garvey was ill at the Infirmary. • The National Park Golf Club had 41 new members. • Mrs. A.K. Hogan, a former Vicksburg resident, died in Birmingham, Ala.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Sammy Hazel, with the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, was in Vicksburg on a visit. • Chief Petty Officer O.F. Buzhardt of Camp Perry, Va., was in Vicksburg visiting family. • Louis Fried, a former resident, died in New York City.  • Mr. and Mrs. Paul Curtis announced the birth of their daughter, Betty Ann. • Services were held for W.J. Melton.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Services were held for H.R. Andress. • Mr. and Mrs. George Page and their children were visiting in Greenville. • Mr. and Mrs. George Brent, of Redwood, announced the birth of their son, Larry.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. James R. Morris Jr. announced the birth of their daughter, Amanda. • Services were held for Fannie Sims. • Lt. Felix Joffrion Jr. was at home after two years of duty with the U.S. Army in Germany. • Robert Payne was at home for the Easter holiday from Emory University.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Joey Smith celebrated his third birthday. • Mrs. C.A. Carlson demonstrated bread making to members of the Wayside Extension Homemakers. • Deborah Louise Merideth and Aubry Oscar Long were married at Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Contractor Johnny Jabour presented the key to Deposit Guaranty National Bank president B.B. Hosch during the grand opening of the branch at 825 Crawford St. • Five-year-old Kenny Woods checked for mail in his grandmother, Mary Lou Rhodman’s, mailbox. • John C. McNamara died. 

30 Years Ago: 1994

Vicksburg’s Riverfront Park was approximately two weeks away from opening. • Porter’s Chapel picked up its first win of the baseball season thanks to pitcher Chris Busby.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Offers were sought to build a boat and barge for the King’s Point Ferry. • A Vicksburg man was charged with sexual battery and weapon possession.

10 Years Ago: 2014

A plane made an emergency landing on the roof of Cooper Lighting. • Flaggs said the city was going to bear down on littering • Warren Central beat in-city rival Vicksburg in softball.
