PCA finishes season sweep of River Oaks

Porter’s Chapel Academy kept the runs and the wins flowing Thursday against River Oaks.

The Eagles scored in all seven innings played as they swept a doubleheader from River Oaks, 17-2 and 16-1 in Monroe, Louisiana. Both games were shortened by the mercy rule.

PCA (13-6, 5-0 MAIS District 4-3A) outscored River Oaks 48-3 in three games this week to sweep the season series. It also won 15-0 Tuesday in Vicksburg.

In game one of Thursday’s doubleheader, Gavin White had four RBIs and scored twice to lead the Eagles to the 17-2 victory.

John Wyatt Massey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Brayden King drove in two runs and scored two more. Thomas Azlin also hit an RBI single and scored four runs.

PCA’s batters had seven hits, but mostly got free passes to spur their scoring. They drew 14 walks and three batters were hit by pitches. River Oaks committed four errors.

In game two, Chase Hearn was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and also pitched one inning of scoreless relief as PCA won 16-1 in three innings.

Massey drove in two runs with a triple and pitched two innings. He and Hearn combined for seven strikeouts.
Gavin Pugh went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored, White hit an RBI single and scored twice, and Evan Gordon also hit an RBI triple.

PCA is now in the middle of its District 4-3A schedule and will play Benton Academy twice next week. The teams will play Monday at 6 p.m. in Vicksburg, and Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Yazoo City.
