Softball Roundup: Lady Vikes win twice, Missy Gators split two at Saturday tournaments

Warren Central’s softball team stayed red-hot heading into its biggest region game of the season.

Madison Pant hit a home run and allowed a total of one run in seven innings pitched as the Lady Vikes won both of their games at the South Panola tournament on Saturday.

In their first game of the day, the Lady Vikes beat North Point 5-0. Pant hit a two-run home run to key a five-run rally in the first inning, while Tyra Bridges and Mari Kynlea Ferguson added RBI singles.

In game two, Pant hit two sacrifice flies and finished with three RBIs total as Warren Central defeated Senatobia 14-1.

Adalyn Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs for Warren Central. Bridges had two hits and an RBI, while Kamryn Morson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Sarah Cameron Fancher also singled in a run and scored twice during a 12-run outburst in the third inning.

Pant allowed two hits, one walk, and one run — on a solo home run by Bree Coleman in the third inning — and had four strikeouts in three innings pitched against Senatobia. Pant had five strikeouts in four innings against North Point.

Warren Central (12-3) won its fifth game in a row and is off to its best start since going 11-0 during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Its next game, however, is Tuesday at home against Region 2-6A rival Neshoba Central (10-2), which has won nine state championships in the past 11 seasons.

Tuesday’s junior varsity game will begin at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:15.

Trinity McGloster hit her second grand slam of the season, and Vicksburg High beat Yazoo County 11-5 at its Strike Out Cancer Tournament Saturday at the Softball Swamp.

McGloster’s home run came during a five-run rally in the second inning. The Missy Gators added another five runs in the third, with two of them coming on a double by Harmony Harris.

Harris finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Camden McGloster was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ja’Mia Grace had two hits and scored a run. Avery Van Norman also scored two runs.

In their second game of the day, Vicksburg lost to Brookhaven, 8-7, as Journi Hunt hit two home runs and had four RBIs for the Panthers.

Trinity McGloster doubled and scored two runs for Vicksburg, while Grace was 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Harris also had an RBI.

Vicksburg (3-9) snapped a three-game losing streak with its win over Yazoo County. It will play its next two games on the road, Monday at Germantown and Tuesday at Florence. Both varsity games begin at 6:15 p.m.
