Voting is now open in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s nominees are baseball players Clark Hobson (St. Aloysius) and Gavin White (Porter’s Chapel); and track athletes Shaniyah Walker (Vicksburg) and Kylie Hearn (Warren Central). Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Clark Hobson, a junior infielder and pitcher with St. Aloysius’ baseball team, helped the Flashes win two out of three games against district rival ACCS. Hobson pitched 4 1/3 innings and struck out four batters in a 16-3 victory on March 19. In the three games, he went 5-for-8 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and reached base eight times.

Gavin White, an outfielder, led Porter’s Chapel Academy Academy’s baseball team to a season sweep of district rival River Oaks. White went 3-for-6, walked twice, scored four runs and had nine RBIs as the Eagles outscored River Oaks 48-3 in three games.

Shaniyah Walker, a senior with Vicksburg High’s track and field team, won the girls’ 400 meters and the 4×400 meter relay at the Meridian Invitational on March 18. Walker had a time of 1:01.48 in the 400 meters, and the 4×400 relay won in 4:41. She was also on the 4×200 meter relay team that finished second.

Kylie Hearn, a freshman distance runner with Warren Central’s girls’ track and field team, had three top-two finishes to help the Lady Vikes win the team championship at the JPS High School Meet 2 on March 19. Hearn won the 800 meters with a time of 2:53.26 and finished second in the 1,600 meters, in 6:34.82. She was also on the 4×800 meter relay team that won with a time of 11:52.57.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
