Mr. and Mrs. T.W. McCoy were in New Orleans. • Martha Hicks was spending the week in New Orleans. • Juliette Hatchette won the professional piano contest of the State Federation of Music Clubs.

90 Years Ago: 1934
Albert Spengler was named project engineer by the State Highway Department. • Lera Gaston accepted a position as a secretary with W.T. Farley Clothing Company. • Grace Woods of Houston was in Vicksburg visiting Helen Kemper.

80 Years Ago: 1944
Radio equipment was installed in the auto of Fire Chief Joseph F. Hosemann. • Franklin Fowler, of Port Gibson, died from injuries received when a stove exploded. • R.C. Finch passed away.

70 Years Ago: 1954
Robert C. Odom was elected exalted ruler of the Vicksburg Elk Lodge No. 95. • Mrs. Frank Cashman and Miss Marguerite Koestler sailed from New Orleans aboard the Stella Polaris for an extended trip abroad. • Virginia Ann Sanders was home for the holidays from Duke University.

60 Years Ago: 1964
Betty Ann Howard was elected Miss East Carroll Parish. • Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pettway announced the birth of their daughter, Kimberly. • Services were held for Lucille Thompson.

50 Years Ago: 1974
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pajerski returned from a trip to Ireland. • Tommy Lee Williams Jr. was inducted into the Maj. Donald M. Wade Squadron of the Arnold Air Society. This society is a professional honorary service organization of Air Force cadets. • Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Stokes announced the birth of a daughter, Carla Ann.

40 Years Ago: 1984
An automobile that was driven by Cora James crashed through the front of Caruther’s Inc. Tom Caruthers estimated the damages to be around $3,000. • Mr. and Mrs. Billy Dalton Brewer announced the birth of a son, Billy Dalton Jr. • Samuel Ross Jr. was 6 years old.

30 Years Ago: 1994
A new patrol car was donated to the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department. • Ariel Warren celebrated her third birthday.

20 Years Ago: 2004
The Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street was to close for renovations.

10 Years Ago: 2014
Tallulah Mayor Eddie Beckwith died. • Lady Vikes Softball suffered their first loss of the season.
