Baseball Roundup: Vicksburg High, Tallulah Academy swamp district opponents

Vicksburg High’s baseball team finished March the same way it started — with a victory.
Tyler Carter went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBIs, Mincer Minor drove in three runs, and the Gators routed Callaway 13-0 on Thursday.
It was Vicksburg’s (4-12, 1-1 MHSAA Region 2-6A) first win since March 1. It’ll play again April 2 at home against Columbus.
The Gators scored in all four innings they batted by mixing a combination of eight hits, five walks and six errors by Callaway.
Chris Green hit an RBI triple and scored on a double by Kealon Bass to bring in the first two runs in the first inning. Bass hit an RBI single and Carter followed with an RBI double in the second as the Gators extended their lead to 8-0, and then they added three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth to finish the game via the mercy rule.
Bass finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Green was 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Kaleb Doss also had two hits, and he and Peyton Calvin each scored twice.
Bass pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one hit and no walks while striking out five batters. Doss pitched the last 1 1/3 innings and had two strikeouts.

Tallulah Academy took batting practice against Mt. Salus and picked up a couple more district wins in the process.
The Trojans had a whopping 24 hits — eight players had more than one — as they beat Mt. Salus 28-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday. Tallulah finished the sweep with a 10-0 victory in game two.
Tallulah outscored Mt. Salus 57-1 in its three-game series this week.
In the game one victory Thursday, Tallulah (14-5, 5-0 MAIS District 3-2A) scored 11 runs in the first inning and 11 more in the fourth.
Luke Moberley and Hayes Hopkins each had two hits and scored two runs, and Matt Malone was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Tripp Gayle was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored.
Brayson Morson, Benton Lee, Kennedy Collins and Charlie Vinning had three RBIs apiece. Collins also scored four runs.
