100 Years Ago: 1924
Judge E.L. Brien addressed the grand jury. • W.E. Lassiter was named foreman of the grand jury. • W.C. Baker, a former resident, was visiting Vicksburg.

90 Years Ago: 1934
Selby Fielder and Versie Scott were married. • Ella Stout passed away. • Mr. and Mrs. U.G. Flowers entertained Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Woods of Cincinnati.

80 Years Ago: 1944
Frost was forecast for Warren County and crop damage was feared as the temperature went down. • Mrs. Tom Brabston was ill at her home on Adams Street. • J.V. Holliday underwent surgery at Mercy Hospital. • Mrs. J.R. Bryan left to make her home in Aberdeen.

70 Years Ago: 1954
Services were held for Richard Bearden of Port Gibson. • Francis Carlisle was out after an illness. • Mrs. C.F. Steele was elected president of the Jett School PTA.

60 Years Ago: 1964
Mr. and Mrs. William Vinzant announced the birth of their son, Thomas. • William Taylor died. • Mr. and Mrs. George Hunter and their family moved into their new home in Marion Park Subdivision.

50 Years Ago: 1974
Mrs. J.W. Schilling was recovering from a broken leg suffered in a fall at home. • Steve Cook was a candidate for the office of circuit clerk. He would succeed J. Noel Nutt, who resigned. • Rodger D. Harris was promoted to liaison officer and executive assistant for the Mississippi River Commission and Lower Mississippi Valley Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

40 Years Ago: 1984
John F. Halpin, a certified public accountant, died of a heart attack. • Mr. and Mrs. David Powers announced the birth of a daughter, Ashely Nicole. • Services were held for Annie Bell Evans.

30 Years Ago: 1994
Former mayor Robert Walker dropped his lawsuit that challenged the election of Joe Loviza as mayor. • George and Pam Stinespring announced the birth of their son, Brian Adams.

20 Years Ago: 2004
The Aeolian apartments were put on the market by owner Frank Imes.

10 Years Ago: 2014
Contestants sought votes during Vicksburg’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition. • The city was to punish illegal dumpers.
