Track Roundup: Vicksburg wins four Little Six titles; Gators’ Vample, WC’s Henderson win again

Vicksburg High’s eighth-grade track and field team won four events at the Little Six Championships Thursday in Pearl.
Zion Knox led the girls’ team with victories in the long jump and triple jump, as well as a second-place finish in the high jump.
Knox jumped 16 feet, 3 1/2 inches in the long jump, and 33-4 1/4 in the triple jump. She cleared 4-10 in the high jump.
Javid Scott won the boys’ 200 meters, with a time of 23.42 seconds. He also joined Jaylen Stewart, Corbin Walker and Jayden Stewart on the 4×200 meter relay team that won with a time of 1 minute, 36.04 seconds.
Jaylen Stewart placed second in the boys’ long jump, with a mark of 18-3.
In the ninth-grade meet, Vicksburg’s Nakia Jeffers was third in the girls’ long jump and triple jump, and Casey Brown finished third in the boys’ 1,600 meters.

at Fleet Feet meet
Vicksburg High’s varsity girls’ track and field team did not win any events, but piled up eight top-four performances and enough points to come away with a fourth-place team finish at the Fleet Feet Track Classic at Northwest Rankin High School.
A total of 14 girls’ teams and 13 boys’ teams competed in the meet. The Missy Gators had 53 points, and Clinton won the girls’ team title with 227. Vicksburg’s boys’ team had 44 points, and Clinton won with 146.5.
Shaniyah Walker finished third in the girls’ 400 meters for Vicksburg, and fourth in the 200 meters. She also was part of the 4×400 meter relay team that placed third, and the 4×200 meter relay that was fourth.
Keekee Curry, Midori Allen and McKenzie Edmond were also on the 4×400 relay.
Rodrianna Hall was third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump, and on the 4×100 meter relay team that came in fourth.
For the boys, Koury Vample had Vicksburg’s lone victory of the day. He clocked a time of 14.83 seconds to win the 110 meter hurdles.
Tyler Henderson placed second in the long jump, with a mark of 22 feet, and was third in the 100 meters with a time 10.88 seconds.
Vicksburg’s varsity team compete again Saturday, at the Arrow Invitational at Clinton High School beginning at 11 a.m.
WC’s Henderson wins again
at Brookhaven meet
Warren Central’s Jonathan Henderson remained undefeated in the boys’ high jump this season by winning at the Brookhaven Invitational meet on Thursday.
Henderson cleared 6 feet, 4 inches for his fourth victory in as many meets. Royale Shelvy of Jefferson County was second, at 6-2.
Henderson’s victory was the only one of the day for the Vikings, although they did have some other solid performances.
Rickey Neal Jr. finished third in the long jump, with a mark of 21-2, and was second in the triple jump at 41-2 1/2.
Gavin Davenport was second in the discus, with a throw of 115-7.
In the girls’ meet, WC’s Arionna Jenkins was a double winner in the discus and shot put. She threw the discus 86 feet, 7 inches, and the shot 35-2. In the latter, she beat teammate Mariah Burnett who had a throw of 31-4 to finish second.
Adria Burrell clocked a time of 12,74 seconds to bring home a second-place finish, while Ka’ryn Henderson was third in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches.
