Vicksburg High’s track and field team finished its regular season by taking a couple of victory laps on Saturday.

The Gators and Missy Gators won a total of four events and posted nine top-four finishes at the stacked Arrow Invitational meet at Clinton High School.

Nearly two dozen teams competed in the meet, which created stiff competition and full fields.

For Vicksburg’s boys’ team, Koury Vample and Tyler Henderson both continued their outstanding seasons by making trips to the top of the podium.

Vample won the 300 meter hurdles in 39.80 seconds, and was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.42 seconds.

Henderson leaped a season-best 46 feet, 3 inches to win the triple jump by nearly a foot. He also showed a burst in one of his new events, the 100 meters, by posting a time of 11.01 seconds to finish fourth out of 49 runners.

Vample has not lost in the 300 hurdles, nor Henderson in the triple jump, this season.

Vicksburg’s girls’ team also won twice, with Shaniyah Walker picking up a victory in the 400 meters and Rodrianna Hall in the triple jump.

Walker ran the 400 in 58.35 seconds. She also was part of an impressive showing by the Missy Gators in the 200 meters, as one of three team members to place in the top 10 out of 32 runners.

Amiya Hall finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 25.98 seconds, Walker was right behind in 26.10, and Jakayla Brooks placed seventh in 26.20.

Amiya Hall and Brooks both had top-10 finishes in the 100 meters as well. Brooks was sixth out of 40 runners, with a time of 12.61 seconds, and Hall was ninth in 12.70.

Rodrianna Hall won the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 3 3/4 inches, and also finished sixth in the long jump at 16-9 1/2.

Vicksburg’s 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams both finished in third place, and the 4×200 meter team was fourth.

Vicksburg will have next week off to rest and regroup before competing in the MHSAA Region 2-6A meet April 18 at its home track. It’s the first of three rounds of the postseason leading up to the Class 6A state meet on May 4 at Pearl High School.
