Voting is now open in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s set of nominees are baseball players Tyler Carter (Vicksburg) and Thomas Azlin (Porter’s Chapel); St. Aloysius tennis player Carrie Wood; and Warren Central powerlifter Katie Wallace. Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Carrie Wood, a member of St. Aloysius’ tennis team, won two matches last week. Wood won 6-1, 6-1 in girls’ singles as as the Flashes beat East Rankin Academy 7-2 on April 4. On April 5, she teamed with Michael Moore in mixed doubles to win 6-3, 6-3 against Laurel Christian as St. Al again won 7-2.

Tyler Carter, a senior first baseman for Vicksburg High’s baseball team, led the Gators to a 3-0 record last week. In the three games, Carter batted .625 (5-for-8), with two home runs, one double and one tripe, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored.

Katie Wallace, a senior at Warren Central, finished second in the girls’ 242-pound weight class at the MHSAA Class 6A powerlifting state meet on April 5. She lifted 365 pounds in the squat, 130 in the bench press, and 350 in the deadlift for a total of 845 pounds.

Thomas Azlin, a senior catcher with Porter’s Chapel Academy’s baseball team, helped the Eagles win two of their three games last week against district rival Franklin Academy. Azlin batted .333 (3-for-9) in the three games, with a home run, double, five RBIs and five runs scored.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
