Vicksburg gets a peek: Cloud cover doesn’t deter crowds from viewing eclipse

The Vicksburg National Military Park drew a crowd for Monday’s eclipse, despite heavy cloud cover that made it a peek-when-you-could event.

National Park Service Ranger Peter Winfrey said the park began passing out viewing glasses around 12:30 p.m. in anticipation of the total eclipse at approximately 1:50 p.m. Winfrey said heavy cloud cover was expected and a NASA livestream of the event was being held inside the visitor’s center for those wanting to get a clearer, albeit televised, look at the eclipse.

Despite the weather, the park’s front entrance was jammed with vehicles, including RVs and news crews, all waiting to catch a peek of the eclipse between breaks in the clouds.
