St. Aloysius’ Carrie Wood is The Post’s Athlete of the Week

Carrie Wood was unstoppable on the tennis court and in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

Wood, a member of St. Aloysius’ team, received 2,959 of the 4,452 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to claim this week’s honor.

Porter’s Chapel Academy baseball player Thomas Azlin received 765 votes to hold off Vicksburg High baseball player Tyler Carter for second place. Carter received 591 votes. Warren Central powerlifter Katie Wallace finished fourth, with 183 votes.

Wood won two individual matches last week to help St. Al win a pair of team matches as well. She won 6-1, 6-1 in girls’ singles as as the Flashes beat East Rankin Academy 7-2 on April 4. On April 5, she teamed with Michael Moore in mixed doubles to win 6-3, 6-3 against Laurel Christian as St. Al again won 7-2.
