Miss Mississippi Tennis Tournament crowns its inaugural champions

Nearly 40 players from across the state came to Halls Ferry Park last weekend for the inaugural Miss Mississippi Tennis Tournament.

The event, as well as a pickleball tournament on April 6, served as a fundraiser for the Miss Mississippi Corporation.

The tennis tournament featured doubles teams in four brackets based on skill levels. The winners in each were:

• In mixed doubles, the team of Mary Jane Fant and Austin Crabtree finished first. Rachel Bounds and Kaleel Jabour came in second.

• In ladies doubles 3.0 and below, the team of Cherie Kilgo and Celia Graham won the title. Kaylee Parson and Kim Day finished second.

• In ladies doubles 4.0 and below, Mary Jane Fant and Debbie Peacock finished first, and Nellie Hopkins and Janell Thames were second.

• In men’s doubles, Bryton Hixson and Joseph Jabour were the champions, while Trey Isbell and Dick Whitaker finished as runners-up.
