A Gator swamped the competition in the latest Vicksburg Post Athlete of the Week contest.

Rodrianna Hall, a senior track athlete for Vicksburg High, received an overwhelming majority — 4,820 of the 6,120 votes cast, or 77 percent — in an online poll of The Post’s readers to win the award.

Warren Central baseball player Ryan Nelson finished second with 587 votes, just edging out Porter’s Chapel Academy tennis and track athlete Henry Slayton who had 542. St. Aloysius track athlete Annslee Averett was fourth, with 280 votes.

Hall won two events to help the Missy Gators claim the girls’ team championship at the MHSAA Region 2-6A meet on April 18. She won the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 3 inches, and the triple jump with a mark of 34-10 1/2. She also finished third in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches.

Hall qualified for the Class 6A North State meet in all three events. She and her teammates will compete Saturday at Center Hill High School, with a trip to the state meet on the line.

Congratulations to Rodrianna and the other nominees, and thank you to our readers for voting.

The nominees for the Athlete of the Week award are announced each Sunday, and voting is open until midnight Tuesday. Links to the poll will be posted on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X pages, as well as vicksburgpost.com.
