Jimmy E. Mixon

Mr. Jimmy E. Mixon was born May 22, 1942, to the late John Mixon and Sophie Cosey Mixon. Jimmy was a 1962 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School.

In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces where he chose to serve our nation and protect its citizens.

He later joined the Army Reserve and, after 38 years of service, he retired in 2002 with nobility and honor.

He confessed his love for Christ and was baptized at an early age. He worked faithfully as a financial secretary for his church that he loved dearly, Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to serving our nation, Jimmy was a trailblazer and had an outstanding career at International Paper Company where he was a Lead Shift Operator.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, John Mixon and Sophie Cosey Mixon; his daughter, Roslyn Darden; and his sister, Geraldine Mixon.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his love and memories his loving wife, Bertha Mixon; his daughter, Melanie (Omar) Nelson; his son, Larry (Sandra) Barnes; son-in-law, Edgar Brown; brother-in-law, Lovie Pettis of Memphis; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church (2585 N. Washington St.) with Bishop Tommy Holliday officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home from 1 until 6 p.m. with family present from 5 until 6 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
