Two days after an emotional, exciting series-clinching victory, Warren Central’s softball team hit a dip in the rollercoaster ride.

Sadie Bright struck out 10 batters while throwing a five-inning no-hitter, and Kailey McKinney hit a two-run home run as South Panola beat the Lady Vikes 10-0 in Game 1 of their MHSAA Class 6A playoff series on Thursday.

Addison Sanders was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for South Panola (25-4). Kaylin Hubbard was also 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

The Tigers only led 1-0 through three innings, but got to freshman pitcher Keke McKay in the bottom of the fourth. Sanders hit an RBI triple, McKinney hit her home run, and an error that led to two runs pushed it to 6-0.

Another RBI double by Sanders and an RBI single by Hubbard in the fifth helped end the game via the mercy rule.
Sarah Cameron Fancher was Warren Central’s only baserunner. She walked twice, in the first and fourth innings.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Saturday at 3 p.m. at Warren Central’s Lucy Young Field. The Lady Vikes (22-7) need to win to force a deciding Game 3 Monday in Batesville.
