Vicksburg native Reed named Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year

Van’s the man in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Vantrel Reed, a Warren Central alum and second baseman for LSU Shrevport, has been named the Red River Athletic Conference’s baseball Player of the Year.
Reed finished the regular season in the top 10 in the conference in a number of hitting categories.
The junior is first in total bases (109), second in RBIs (52), third in hits (63), third in triples (4), fourth in home runs (8), fourth in runs scored (49), and seventh in batting average (.380). He also had 26 extra base hits to go along with 21 stolen bases.
Reed was also one of seven LSU Shreveport players selected to the All-RRAC first team. Six more were on the second team. Isaac Rohde was selected as the league’s Pitcher of the Year.
LSU Shreveport 40-7 overall record, and went 28-2 in conference play to won the RRAC regular-season championship for the third year in a row. It is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 poll.
The Pilots won their RRAC tournament opener on Thursday, 17-1 over Jarvis Christian. Reed was 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. He also had a stolen base.
The Pilots are scheduled to play Louisiana Christian Friday at 5 p.m. in Sterlington, La., in a winners’ bracket game.
LSU Shreveport has also been selected as one of 10 regional host sites for the NAIA national tournament. Regionals will be played May 13-16.
William Carey University in Hattiesburg will also host a regional.
