A report of gunfire over the weekend at Eastbrook Apartments led to the arrest of a Vicksburg man on drugs and weapons charges.

According to Vicksburg Police Department (VPD), 28-year-old Larry Johnson was arrested Saturday just after 11 p.m. after a report of shots fired led officers to the apartment complex on Highway 61 North.

“When officers approached Johnson, he began to act in a suspicious manner,” VPD officials said. “Officers found cocaine and fentanyl in his possession, along with two loaded Glock pistol magazines and $775 in cash. A search of the immediate area revealed a Glock handgun with an illegal ‘switch’ installed to make it a fully automatic weapon.”

Johnson appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court Monday for charges of trafficking of cocaine, trafficking of fentanyl, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Judge Allen Derivaux set Johnson’s bond at $80,000 and bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

The United States Attorney has been contacted for prosecution for the illegal weapon under federal statutes.
