Armed robbery suspect appears in court

A St. Louis man accused of robbing a Vicksburg convenience store at gunpoint made his initial appearance in court Wednesday.

According to information from the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD), 30-year-old Damon Jones was taken into custody without incident after being caught on video surveillance at the Circle K convenience store located at 3326 Clay Street.

“At 4:25 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, officers were dispatched to a reported armed robbery that had just occurred at the Circle K convenience store,” VPD said. “Using surveillance video, officers were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle, which was soon located at the Battlefield Campground, 4407 North Frontage Road. The money stolen from the store was recovered, and a handgun was collected as evidence.”

Jones was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court Wednesday before Judge Allen Derivaux. His bond was set at $500,000 and he was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
