The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a flash flood warning for  portions Hinds and Warren counties until 1 a.m. Friday.

The warning covers southwestern Hinds County and central Warren County, including Vicksburg.

According to NWS, thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall have already dumped between 2 and 3 inches of rainfall, with expected rainfall to continue at 2 to 3 inches per hour.

At 10:01 p.m., NWS said flash flooding was expected to begin shortly.

The impact includes flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
