Jean Lewis, 83, of Hot Springs Village, Ark. (formally of Redwood) passed away Friday, May 3. She was born May 19, 1940, in Grand Gulf to William Towne and Pearl Johnston Reed.

She liked tennis, softball and golf. She was a librarian and was the first bookmobile librarian in Vicksburg and Warren County. She the first female umpire for baseball in Warren County.

Jean was preceded in death by her father, William Towne; mother, Pearl Johnston Reed; and grandsons, Brett Nevels and Markus Lewis.

Survivors include her spouse, Charles Lewis; children, Donna Lewis Weaver (Sam), Shari Lewis Nevels, David Lewis (Wanda); grandchildren, Samantha Houston (Tommy), Kevin Nevels (Amanda), Scott Weaver, Brian Nevels, Michael Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Melissa Lewis; great-grandchildren, Eric Marr, Elizabeth Houston, Emma Houston, Claire Nevels, Lucas Nevels, and Mallory Weaver.

Jean’s life was celebrated Tuesday, May 7, at Caruth-Hale Village Funeral Home.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the EMTs, police and fire departments of Hot Springs Village who went above and beyond to administer live-saving measures.

Our family is so grateful for all they did and being with her until the end.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
