We want your input: What stories are important to you?

Published 1:56 am Saturday, May 11, 2024

Summer is fast approaching and that means a bit of a break from some things. For a few months, students and teachers will get a respite from the daily grind of the classroom, a lot of folks will take time off work for family vacations, and even a few local businesses will have special summer hours. But, the news never stops and here at The Post, we want to know what  questions you have and what stories you want to see covered.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll stress again that this is your newspaper and while our work never really stops, we think it’s very important to pause and look around every now again or risk losing sight of what’s important, which is having our fingers on the pulse of our community.

With that in mind, we are proposing a very simple agreement: You guys tell us what questions you have and what stories you want to see covered – or explored more deeply – and we’ll do just that. It could be as simple as wanting to know how to find out who to go to about potholes on your street, or as complex as looking into an old crime that seems lost to time. That’s why we’re here and we want to be of service.

I’ve also said this before, but we have a great staff here at The Post and each of us is constantly – and I do mean constantly – keeping our ears to the ground to make sure we are covering the major aspects of life in Vicksburg, Warren County, and the surrounding areas. But, even in the age of social media and instant communication, we can’t do our jobs correctly and thoroughly without your help. In the coming weeks, we’ll shoot out some reminders on our social media platforms and on our website and give you some additional options for reaching out to us with your questions and suggestions.

In the meantime, you can send emails to news@vicksburgpost.com and I assure you, we’ll get back to you in a timely manner. I can’t promise we’ll always be able to give you an immediate answer, but I can promise you that if we don’t know the answer, we’ll work to find the person who does.

There’s plenty going on in our community and it’s really easy to get caught up in it all and look down and see that months have gone by. So, don’t hesitate to put your story or question on our plate. We can stomach it. And maybe more importantly, we’re hungry to do just that.
