STARKVILLE — After leading the Mississippi State men’s basketball program to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, head coach Chris Jans has been rewarded with a contract extension.

Jans signed a new deal with Mississippi State that will run through the 2027-28 season, the university announced Monday. The four-year contract is the longest allowed for a state employee in Mississippi.

The contract will reportedly include a pay raise to $4.2 million per season. He made $2.4 million in 2022, his first season in Starkville, and $3.2 million last season.

“We are excited for the future of Mississippi State basketball under the leadership of Coach Jans,” Mississippi State Director of Athletics Zac Selmon said in a statement. “He and his staff have done a tremendous job since arriving in Starkville, and we know the best is yet to come.”

Over his first two seasons, Jans has guided the Bulldogs to a 42-27 record and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.

Jans’ 42 victories are the most ever for a Mississippi State coach in his first two seasons at the school.

Overall, in eight seasons as a head coach at Mississippi State, New Mexico State and Bowling Green, Jans as a 185-71 record. His teams reached the NCAA Tournament in five of the past seven seasons.
