This is the first Friday game in the series since 2008, and one of just five all-time. It was also played on Friday in 1916, 1921, 2007 and 2008. Since 2016, the game was played on Thanksgiving every season except 2020.

The SEC also announced kickoff times and TV assignments for the first three weeks of the season.

New head coach Jeff Lebby will debut with Mississippi State Aug. 31 against Eastern Kentucky, with a 5 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+. The Bulldogs will follow that with a road game at Arizona State on Sept. 7 at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN, and then a home game vs. Toledo on Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Ole Miss will open at home on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. against Furman, on ESPN+. On Sept. 7, the Rebels host Middle Tennessee at 3:15 p.m. on SEC Network, and on Sept. 14 they go on the road to Wake Forest for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff on The CW.
