2024 All-County Track and Field: The Vicksburg Post’s All-County girls’ track team

Marley Bufkin/Porter’s Chapel, Jr./Sprints/Jumps — Excellent all-around athlete reached the MAIS Class 3A state meet in six events — the 100 and 200 meters, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays, and the long jump
Adria Burrell/Warren Central, Jr./Sprints — MHSAA Class 6A champion in the 200 meters (25.57 seconds) also finished second in the 100 (12.23) and eighth in the 400 ... on the 4x200 meter relay team that finished fourth
Megan Theriot/St. Aloysius, Fr./Sprints — Speedy freshman finished second in MAIS Class 5A in the 400 meters, third in the 200, and fourth in the 100 ... also on the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that qualified for the state meet
Samantha Edwards/St. Aloysius, Jr./Distance — Reached the MAIS Class 5A state meet in all three distance events — the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters ... finished third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:25.78, and fourth in the 3,200
Arrionna Jenkins/Warren Central, So./Throws — Finished second in MHSAA Class 6A in the shot put, with a mark of 35 feet, 7 1/4 inches ... won the Region 2-6A championship in the shot put
Mia Abdo/Porter’s Chapel, Fr./Jumps — Finished fourth in MAIS Class 3A in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump ... member of the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams that reached the state meet
Makynzie Edmond/Vicksburg, 8th/Jumps/Sprints — Eighth-grader had a fourth place finish in Class 6A in the high jump, with a height of 4-10 ... on the 4x400 meter relay team that finished fifth in Class 6A
Rodrianna Hall/Vicksburg, Sr./Jumps — Won two MHSAA Class 6A silver medals, in the long jump (16-9 1/2) and triple jump (35-4) ... also reached the state meet in the high jump (4-8)
Zion Knox/Vicksburg, 8th/Jumps — Started her varsity track career with an MHSAA Class 6A championship in the triple jump, at 35 feet, 8 inches ... also finished fourth in the long jump (16-7)
Jae’la Smith/Porter’s Chapel, Sr./Jumps — MAIS Class 3A champion in the high jump, with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches ... also on the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams that reached the state meet
Mariah Burnett/Warren Central, Jr./Throws — Finished fourth in MHSAA Class 6A in the shot put, with a throw of 30 feet, 5 1/4 inches
Relay of the Year: Vicksburg 4x200 Relay — Aubrey Turner/To’nia Taylor/Amiya Hall/Shaniyah Walker —The Missy Gators’ 4x200 meter relay won the MHSAA Class 6A championship with a time of 1:44.94
At the end of each high school sports season, The Vicksburg Post honors Warren County’s best athletes in a number of sports with its All-County teams.
The 2024 All-County track and team features 29 of the area’s top athletes from Warren Central, Vicksburg High, St. Aloysius and Porter’s Chapel Academy. All of them reached the state meet in their respective classifications in the MHSAA and MAIS, and eight won state championships.
The All-County girls’ team is led by Vicksburg High senior sprinter Shaniyah Walker. The Hinds Community College signee won two MHSAA Class 6A championships, in the 400 meters and 4×200 meter relay. She clocked a season-best time of 57.41 seconds in the 400.
Walker also reached the state meet in the 200 meters and 4×400 meter relay.
