City of Vicksburg announces memorial for fallen firefighters

The Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen have announced the unveiling of a memorial to honor the memory of three Vicksburg firefighters who lost their lives in two separate traffic accidents.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said the Vicksburg Fire Department will commemorate the lives and service of Lt. Drue A. Randolph, who also served as a paramedic; firefighter and paramedic Jarod K. Squire; and firefighter and EMT Derico L. Davis.

Squire and Davis were killed in a wreck on Interstate 20 in October. Randolph was killed on New Year’s Day 2015  in a two-car wreck near his home in Franklin Parish, La.

The unveiling ceremony honoring the three men will take place Friday at 2 p.m. at the Vicksburg Fire Department, located at 1630 Walnut Street.

Flaggs said the memorial will serve as a testament to the city’s commitment to honoring and preserving the legacies of all three firefighters and will provide the community an opportunity to come together for a time of commemoration and reflection.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said the memorial will pay tribute to the lives and legacies of all three fallen heroes and will serve as a lasting reminder of their dedication to serving their community.
