1 injured in Washington Street shooting; VPD continues investigation

Officials with Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) are continuing an investigation into an early morning shooting Friday on Washington Street that left one man injured.
According to VPD, officers responded to the 4100 block of Washington Street, near Ameristar Casino, at approximately 1:17 a.m. following reports of a person who was struck by gunfire.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a wrecked vehicle and 25-year-old Devontay Knight suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper extremities,” VPD Sgt. Jerrold Hayes said. “Knight was transported to Merit Health River Region by medics and was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. At this time, Knight is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.”
VPD did not release information on any possible suspects in Friday’s shooting and said the investigation is ongoing. Hayes said anyone with information related  to this incident is asked to call VPD at 601-636-2511, or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477 (TIPS).
