100 Years Ago: 1924

Ike Schwartz was connected with Baer and Brothers. • Mary A. McBroom died. • Louis P. Cashman and his son, Louis Jr., departed for Toronto, where they attended the Rotary International Convention.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Ben Colmery gave a talk over the radio station WQBC. • R.M. Kelly spoke at the Elks’ Flag Day exercise. • Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haues and their children left for Macon, Ga. to visit relatives.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Louise Bliss enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps. • Albert Schneider was at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill. • Services were held for Blanche Schilling.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Mrs. William Ellis was in Vicksburg from Los Angeles and visited relatives. • Clifton Shelton passed away. • Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hossley and their children were in Fayette for the wedding of Dr. Nina Bess Goss and Ellis Moffitt.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Frank Clark passed away. • Mr. and Mrs. James Pilgrim announced the birth of a son, Jeffrey Mark. • Services were held for Patty Whitaker.

50 Years Ago: 1974

County Agent Hunter George reported that up to 12,000 acres of cotton and soybean land in Warren County would be flooded by the backwaters of the Mississippi River. • Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Phillips announced the birth of their daughter, Melissa Christine. • Recognized nationally as Outstanding Secondary Educators of America for 1974 were Cecilia Aarons, Ernestine Madison and Joseph L. Loviza (all were Vicksburg High School teachers).

40 Years Ago: 1984

Firefighters sprayed water on the transformers that had caused a fire at the Atwood Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Company. • Regina D. Holler died. • Services were held for Edward Roscoe McKnight II.

30 Years Ago: 1994

The Vicksburg Humane Society started work on its new facility on Highway 61 South.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Vicksburg Mayor Laurence E. Leyens began restoring the old bus depot on Walnut Street.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Andrew Bucci and his painting “Figure in Green” was chosen as the signature image of the International Ballet Competition. • Thad Cochran met with local leaders at Golding Barge. • The City of Vicksburg joined the technological revolution when it launched its smartphone app.
