Hayes Fuller and Lawrence Hennessey returned from  Notre Dame University. • Norienne Buckley opened a summer school. • The Honorable Theo G. Birchett was the principal speaker at the Elks’ Flag Day exercise.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Piggly Wiggly defeated the U.S. Engineers 4 to 3. • Mr. and Mrs. Perry Elder and their son left for Monroe, La., where they would make their home. • Clarabelle Drake, of Jefferson County, was the guest of Bessie Durham.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Judge and Mrs. P.C. Canizaro returned from a visit of several weeks at Hot Springs, Ark. • Mrs. Charles Breithaupt was elected president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Services were held for Clarence E. Hude. • Mr. and Mrs. Milton Dennis announced the birth of their son, Thomas. • Mr. and Mrs. William Skates, of Port Gibson, announced the birth of their son, James Michael.

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stewart announced the birth of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth. • Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Turner announced the birth of their son, Richard. • Sarah Crockett died.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Ron Caimano was named general manager of the Vicksburg Holiday Inn. • Dorothy Dean returned from a two-week trip to the Hawaiian Islands. • Darlene Leggett won a trip to England and France.

40 Years Ago: 1984

The remains of the Sprague rusted away on the banks of Yazoo Diversion Canal while action on money was delayed. • Marjorie Downey McAdams died. • Ann and Bill Henley celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. • Mr. and Mrs. Dale Holdiness announced the birth of a son, Christopher Dale.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Mayor Joe Loviza initiated a summer job program and employed 25 high school students and three college interns to work around the city.

20 Years Ago: 2004

The Mississippi River crested and started its slow fall, which was significant to area farmers and the Warren County Board of Supervisors.

10 Years Ago: 2014

A Vicksburg man got a patent for disc sports equipment. • Vicksburg resident Tamara Brown was named a Fortune Magazine Hero. • Cannon Soccer Club held tryouts.
