Mrs. John Pichetto underwent surgery at the Infirmary. • Mrs. W.C. Keim was recovering from an illness. • Annie Klein was enjoying her vacation in Monroe.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Elwood Cashman accepted a position with the Gulf Refining Company in New Orleans. • Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Purser returned from their honeymoon. • Lillian Husbands was visiting relatives in Greenville. 

80 Years Ago: 1944

John Poitevant, of Mandeville, La., was here visiting relatives. • Mrs. W.J. Husbands returned home following surgery at Mercy Hospital. • Jane Laudenheimer was visiting Mrs. Robert Ballard in Chicago.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Services were held for James Cole. • K.W. Strom underwent surgery at the Lutheran Hospital. • Dr. W.H. Lindley was in Biloxi, where he attended a convention for veterinarians. 

60 Years Ago: 1964

Matt Melsheimer was named to the President’s List at Mississippi State University. • Mrs. John Butler was a patient at Vicksburg Hospital. • W.N. Cockrell died.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Boone Jr. announced the arrival of their son, Erich Brattley. • Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Harper Jr. and children, Bobby and Betty, returned from a trip to Tabor City, N.C. • Leanne Metzger was awarded a scholarship to Mississippi University of Women. • Angela Maxine Dunigan celebrated her first birthday.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Mrs. Tressie G. Matthews died. • Morgan Renee Ables celebrated her first birthday. • A marriage license was issued to William Randolph Price and Helen Margaret Long.

30 Years Ago: 1994

Vicksburg residents lined up from the dock to the levee to take a peek at the Navy’s USS Squall, which as docked at the City Front. • John Thomas Gilmore III celebrated his fifth birthday. 

20 Years Ago: 2004

The City Board voted Chemist Janice Carstafhnur to the Civil Service Commission.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Mat Sinking Unit held the first blessing of the fleet. • Vicksburg High School’s football stadium got a new scoreboard.
