Lucy Armstrong returned from North Carolina. • Ruth Blanks gave a party in honor of Marie Colhoun. • Professor W.W. Broome was recovering from his recent operation.
90 YEARS AGO: 1934
Illinois Central officials escorted Rotary Club members through the railroad shops and tendered the visitors a dinner.
80 YEARS AGO: 1944
Pfc. Herbert Strickland was killed in action in France. • Mrs. W.I. McKay and daughter, Mrs. Lee Johnson, of Oxford, planned a trip to West Point, N.Y. to visit Cadet Irving McKay at the U.S. Military Academy.
70 YEARS AGO: 1954
C.J. Schaffer died. • J.V. Harris died. • The Carr Central High School Band Parents held a pancake supper to raise money for the band’s trip to the University of Michigan.
60 YEARS AGO: 1964
Former Warren County resident Wilbur Kind died in Atlanta. • Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Montgomery, of Edwards, announced the birth of a daughter, Barbara, on Oct. 9.
50 YEARS AGO: 1974
Mr. and Mrs. Larry G. Ross were the parents of a daughter, Rebecca Katherine. • Dr. and Mrs. James P. Guerriero returned from a two-week trip to Europe.

A car accident claimed the life of Bobby Ashley, 19, of Port Gibson. • Randy Miley won Best in Show with a watercolor titled “Shingles” at the Vicksburg Art Association’s fall show.
30 YEARS AGO: 1994
Douglas Little Jr., a 28-year employee of International Paper, was killed in a three-car accident near Utica. • Isle of Capri Casino was given the go-ahead for a 70-spot recreational vehicle park.

City officials were warning Vicksburg residents not to be alarmed by the use of smoke to test sewer lines.
