DOUBLE FUNERAL SET FOR TEENS IN WRECK

A double funeral will be Saturday for two teen-age Sharkey County cousins killed during the weekend when the truck they were accused of stealing crashed into a utility pole while it was being chased by Rolling Fork police.

Terrance Rynel Taylor, 15, died at the scene of the wreck Saturday morning, and his 12-year-old cousin, Marquetta Sharnell Taylor, died Tuesday at University Medical Center in Jackson.

The chase began when police attempted to stop a truck they suspected had been stolen from the South Delta School District, and the driver, believed to be the older teen, would not pull over, Chief Eugene Bell said.

He said a chase through Rolling Fork and west on Highway 14 was at speeds of up to 80 mph before the driver lost control.

The truck left the road and became airborne before hitting the utility pole. Both teens were thrown from the vehicle.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Marquetta Taylor was taken to Sharkey-Issaquena Community Hospital and later airlifted to University Medical Center.

Services will be at 2:30 at Mount Ollie M.B. Church and Cemetery in Egremont.

REWARD OFFERED IN COUNTY MARKET HOLDUP

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of two men who robbed employees at County Market Thursday at gunpoint.

Vicksburg Crime Stoppers joined with the Clay Street grocery store to put up the money for the reward hours after two men held three store employees at gunpoint, District Attorney Gil Martin said.

Vicksburg police said the men, who apparently hid in the store until the manager locked the door at 12:18 a.m., held the staff while taking money from the safe. One man was armed with a sawed-off shotgun and the other, with a semi-automatic weapon.

The men fled the store on foot after using handcuffs on two of the workers and tape to tie up the other.
