Cynthia Annette Berry

TALLULAH Cynthia Annette Berry died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at her home. She was 42.

Miss Berry was born in Jackson and reared in New Orleans. She had lived in Vicksburg for four years before moving to Tallulah a year ago. She was a former model and was employed as a sales associate at River City Mitsubishi.

Survivors include her father, Jerry A. Berry of New Orleans; her mother, Merrill A. Stribling of Richland; a brother, Michael Berry of Jackson; three sisters, Donna C. Berry of Vicksburg, Catherine A. “Cathy” Bunch of Bellevue, Wash., and Florence C. “Christy” Berry of New Orleans; her grandparents, Florence Modina Stribling of Jackson and Lula Christine Berry of New Orleans; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Lakewood South Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park South.

Trudie Jane Parks Joiner

DELHI Trudie Jane Parks Joiner died Sunday, May 23, 2004. She was 85.

Born in Winnsboro, La., Mrs. Joiner attended nursing school in Baton Rouge and graduated at the top of her class. She worked at Baton Rouge General Hospital for a number of years and retired from the Delhi Clinic, where she worked as an emergency room nurse.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, George Lewis Joiner Sr. of Delhi; two sons, George Lewis Joiner Jr. of Delhi and Kenneth Joiner of Dunn, La; a brother, Leonard Jack Parks of Rayville; two sisters, Melviney Green and Joyce Davis, both of Dunn; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Wish I Could Foundation of Northeast Louisiana in Rayville.

Gussie Short McElwee

DELHI Gussie Short McElwee died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. She was 85.

Mrs. McElwee was born in Winnsboro, La., and was named “Miss Louisiana” in 1938. She graduated from Northwestern State College in 1939 and taught high school in Franklin Parish.

She moved with her husband to Delhi in 1947. She was a member of Delhi United Methodist Church, the garden club and a number of community organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Newell McElwee Jr.

Survivors include one daughter, Margie McElwee of Monroe; one son, Dr. Newell McElwee III of Verona, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Brant Jones of Ruston, La., Sara Klug of Albany, Ohio, and Frederick McElwee of Verona.

Services will be at 3 today at the Delhi United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Rountree officiating. Burial will follow at the Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hopson, Tommy Bradley, Bruce Bagwell, Mike Thompson, Jimmy Strong and Roy McIntyre.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Cutler, Dr. Sam Scurria, Dr. Kenneth McDonald and Dr. George Edwards.

Memorials may be made to the Delhi United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Wilson Norman Stevens Sr.

Norman Stevens Sr. died Monday, May 24, 2004, at his home. He was 83.

Born in Claire, Miss., Mr. Stevens had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 60 years. He was a Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and was a former employee of Magnolia Mobile Homes. He retired from Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant and attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wilson Norman Stevens Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Lee Huggins Stevens of Vicksburg; a son, James C. Stevens of Vicksburg; a daughter, Brenda McGarrah of Vicksburg; a sister, Monette Copeland of Kingsport, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. W. Rickey Dorrell and Joe Rickard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Stokes, Tay Everett, Charlie Logan, Sonny Carley, Sammy Stokes and David Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Stevens, Billy Stevens, Tim Stong, Truman Logan, Robbie Mundell, Robert Steele and Bobby Meador.
