Vicksburg Gators win passing league tourney

[7/14/04]The Vicksburg Gators “Green” team notched three wins on Tuesday to claim the Jackson Passing League tournament championship. The tournament final, a 31-25 win over Provine, was highlighted by a game-winning touchdown pass from Eugene Morgan to Willis McGowan in triple overtime.

The Green team started the day by beating Vicksburg’s “White” team 20-14 after a bye in the first round. The White team finished 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament.

The Green team advanced to face Lanier, which it defeated 30-7. Cordarryl Gleese, Shannon Tillman, Zach Bryant and James Jackson each caught touchdowns for Vicksburg. Harold Knight added a pair of interceptions.

Against Provine which hadn’t lost a game all summer Gleese had three touchdowns, and Tillman added a fourth.

Morgan finished the tournament with 12 touchdowns and one interception.
