CLINTON — Patrolman First Class James G. “Jimmy” Brooks, age 60, died March 23, 2011, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Madison. Visitation will be Sunday at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison from 4:30 until 9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be at 11 a.m. Monday and officiated by Dr. John Compton at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will be at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of Vicksburg and the son of Bobbie Allen and the late Johnny L. Brooks, Jimmy was a career motorcycle patrol officer. He moved up the ranks during his 22-year career with the Vicksburg Police Department, serving his last two years as chief of police. After retirement from the Vicksburg Police Department, Jimmy began serving as a motorcycle patrolman with the Madison Police Department. Jimmy was named Officer of the Year on several occasions and won a trophy during the most recent competition, which his wife will receive Sunday. He was a board member for the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer Association and had been involved with the volunteer fire department. “Riding motorcycles was what he loved most. If he wasn’t on a bike he was on a lawn mower, cutting grass sometimes twice a week,” said his family. Jimmy was also a member and a deacon of First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diana Brooks; daughter, Tina Beaube (husband Scott); sons, Jamie Brooks (wife Lamonica), Jonathon Brooks, Jason Brooks (wife Kaylin) and Justin Brooks; grandchildren, Blake and Andrew Brooks, Brandon, Caitlyn and Lauri Beaube, and Rebekah and Matthew Brooks; and mother, Bobbie Allen, all of Clinton.
