Off-duty deputy hurt in crash

A Warren County deputy was hospitalized this morning following a motorcycle crash Sunday on Dana Road.

Cordell Watkins, 25, was off duty and driving his personal motorcycle at about 6 p.m. Sunday when he crashed and hit a fence post, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Watkins was riding the motorcycle near Dana Road Elementary School when he braked to avoid an object in the road, Pace said.

“The back tire locked up and he slid off the road and hit a fence post,” Pace said.

Watkins was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he is listed in good condition.
