Huntsville tops M-Braves with rally in ninth

The Mississippi Braves’ first home game of the second half had an exciting finish, even if the home team wasn’t too thrilled about it.

Joey Paciorek drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth inning to break a 7-all tie, and the Huntsville Stars went on to beat the M-Braves 9-7 Sunday night in the opener of a five-game series at Trustmark Park.

Paciorek’s hit was the last act in a back-and-forth game. Each team squandered a three-run lead before the Stars went ahead for good.

The M-Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, but Huntsville came back to tie it in the third as Kentrail Davis singled in two runs and scored on a hit by Josh Prince.

Huntsville led 7-4 in the seventh, but the M-Braves scored three times to tie it again. Kyle Wren and Cedric Hunter each had an RBI single in the inning.

Hunter finished the game 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for the M-Braves. Davis was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored for Huntsville.

The teams continue their series tonight at 7:05 at Trustmark Park.
