PEARL — Barrett Kleinknect went 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and a run scored, and Cedric Hunter was 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Mississippi Braves beat the Huntsville Stars 3-1 Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.

Hunter had an RBI single in the first inning to give Mississippi a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Matt Kennelly led off with a double and scored on Kleinknecht’s triple. Kleinknecht then scored on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Castro.

That was enough for the M-Braves’ pitching staff. Four pitchers combined to hold Huntsville to one run, despite allowing nine hits and six walks. Ryne Harper (5-3) threw 2 2/3 innings of middle relief to get the win, and Chasen Shreve worked the last 1 2/3 innings for his fifth save of the season.

Huntsville’s run came in the seventh inning, when Robinzon Diaz led off with a pinch-hit single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Ramirez.

D’Vontrey Richardson led Huntsville at the plate by going 3-for-4. The Stars, however, were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base.

The M-Braves won for the second straight night and have taken two of the first three games in the series. The teams play again tonight at 7, then conclude the series Wednesday night.
