A Tallulah, La., man is being held without bond in the Madison Parish Jail charged with home invasion, armed robbery and attempted first degree murder in a reported home invasion that occurred Sunday night in Tallulah.

Madison Parish Sheriff Larry Cox said Corey McGowan, 21, is accused with Robert Freeman, 17, of entering an apartment at the Country Meadows Apartments, 802 N. Cedar St. in Tallulah, in an attempt to rob another man. Freeman was killed by the intended victim during the invasion. An autopsy has been ordered for Freeman, the sheriff said.

The victim, who has not been identified, and McGowan were both wounded in an apparent shootout that occurred when the pair entered the man’s home. Both were hospitalized for their wounds.

Cox said McGowan was arrested as soon as he was released from the hospital. He did not know the condition of the victim.

The home invasion occurred about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

Cox said the men, who apparently knew the victim, knocked on his door, displayed guns when he opened the door and made their way into the apartment.

The case remains under investigation and will be referred to the next Madison Parish grand jury.
