Red Carpet Classic Car Show set for Saturday

Published 7:04 pm Thursday, May 3, 2018

Come rain or shine the show must go on, so even with a 60 percent chance of rain and possible thunderstorms Saturday, the 12th annual Red Carpet Classic Car Show hosted by the Vicksburg Cruisers Car Club will go on as planned.

The car show will be hosted at Blackburn Auto Company on North Frontage Road. It serves as a fundraiser for Haven House Family Shelter.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. and, weather permitting, the awards ceremony will be held at 2 p.m.

“Whether it rains or shines, whatever they have to do it,” club vice president Billy Ray Parker said. “A couple times in the last couple years we have had the threat of rain and thunderstorms. If there is no threat of hail, we usually get a pretty good many cars. We’d like to have 100 to 150 cars.”

The festivities will actually kick-off Friday evening with the third annual drive-in movie. The movie will be played in the front lot of Blackburn and start at 8 p.m. This year, they will be showing “Goosebumps.”  The lot will open to moviegoers around 6 p.m. and music will be playing until the movie starts. There will also be a few door prizes.

“We do $10 a car load and it doesn’t matter if it is just one person or they can bring a church bus. It doesn’t matter,” Parker said. “We will have candy, popcorns, pickles and corndogs for sale.”

The car show is the only event planned for Saturday that is still scheduled to take place. The ninth annual Walk Against Crime “Stop the Violence” has been postponed due to weather. No new date has been announced.

The Vicksburg National Military Park’s Park Day, which had already been postponed twice due to inclement weather, has been officially cancelled. Park superintendent Bill Justice said the park will plan to have a volunteer day some time later this spring, but nothing has been scheduled at this time.
